Honestly, I don’t really enjoy making web sites anymore. Once upon a time, I lived to see what coding magic I could come up with and create these intricate HTML and PHP sites from scratch, coding it all by hand. There is no time for anything like that anymore. Not sure what it is about WordPress, but I have never really enjoyed working with it, although it’s the easiest way to get a site up and running fast.
I do, however, still enjoy making my web sites rank highly in organic search. Although my day job is leading the awesome SEO team at Fanatics, I really only get hands-on, boots on the ground, down and dirty when working on my own sites. Unfortunately, I haven’t been working on my own sites lately. Life has been crazy, and this 3,200 sq.ft house I bought and am remodeling from the studs has kept most of my nights and weekends busy.
It’s been one year exactly since the world fell apart. In sports, this was the day that the NBA and NHL stopped games that were already started. The NCAA Basketball conference tourneys were all cancelled, and we soon found out that March Madness was gone as well. Thus started the year from hell. It wasn’t all bad, a lot of people spent more time with their families, and many found out what was really important. I myself went through phases, including fear at the beginning, studying the Stoic masters in the fall, and putting up entirely too many Christmas lights prior to Halloween.
Now it’s 2021, and March Madness starts next week. It’s been 2 years since the last one, and I can’t wait.
Go Illini!
